Schools & Further Education

Welcome to mre, an extracurricular learning centre!

School classes and groups from other educational institutions can look forward to a very special programme of learning and experiences – free of charge, interdisciplinary and based on the skills and teaching content of the school curriculum.

This enables teachers from primary to upper secondary school to combine the teaching of lesson content with an extraordinary art and architecture experience. Our pedagogically trained art educators accompany the group through Fumihiko Maki’s spectacular architecture and the Reinhard Ernst Collection – using a variety of methods and a playful approach.

Adapted to the lives of children and young people, the social and art-historical background of our collection is made understandable: abstract art from 1945 onwards in the USA, Europe and Japan.

Click on our offers below for further details on the content and to book an appointment.

We would be happy to work with you to determine how the visit can be integrated into your individual school curriculum. You can reach us at: bildung@museum-re.de and +49 611 763 8888 30.

Resources

Experience space Abstraction

Children and young people experience high-quality art and history up close as an educational group in the ‘Experience space Abstraction’. Together, we discover connections to our own lives and learn about and understand the theme of abstraction through the originals in the collection. In a vivid, interactive way with engaging elements, we move together through the world of shapes and colours.

The format consists of a museum tour and experimentation in our digital colour lab.

Book Guided Tour

The programme was developed in close coordination with the competencies and teaching content of the school curricula for the subjects of Art and German – from primary school to secondary school level II. Since the main focus is on promoting interdisciplinary competencies such as personal competence and language competence, our format can also be used across subjects. We are happy to integrate further content-related links to your subject – our team looks forward to hearing from you!

Our offer is aimed at all types of schools and educational groups with children and young people. We see ourselves as a non-discriminatory and safe place that thrives on diversity and dialogue.

Projects and Partnerships

IGS Alexej von Jawlensky

Abstract art has been an integral part of the curriculum at the IGS Alexej von Jawlensky through the partnership with the mre since 2020. In the so-called ‘projects’, the elective mandatory courses in grades 9 and 10, the students deal with abstract painting in theory and practice. At ‘mre in action’ in July 2022, the two courses experimented with colour and material in a spectacular live happening on Wiesbaden’s town square, modelled on the Japanese artist group Gutai.
